Lamp

This lamp features a frame crafted from American Oak, measuring approximately 250 x 150, with Totara inserts. The Oak frame is finished with a soap treatment, while the Totara inserts are enhanced with Shellac/French polish. The design takes advantage of the natural patterns found in some Totara trees, a phenomenon known as Kaikaka. When illuminated, these patterns evoke the intricate visuals seen through a microscope, resembling the Xylem or water transport system of a plant. The Shellac finish accentuates the grain of the Totara, allowing the tree rings to be easily counted. This piece was awarded 1st place in the Furniture category at the Art of Wood Exhibition 2023. $750.
