NZ Scallop

This Golden NZ Scallop is an original Linocut limited edition handmade art print.

Endemic to New Zealand, this scallop is one of our native sea life.

I love the fan-shaped shell with its deep ridges that radiate from the hinge. They move by suddenly closing the shell to shoot water from the hinge. This propels the scallop in a series of jerky jumps. Scallops have two rows of eyes around the mantle, (wow, I didn't know this till recently!).

Also I love that you can tell the age of a scallop by the concentric rings (growth lines) of their shells. (Kind of like the lines on our face ☺️)
