The Koropepe is one of the more ancient Māori designs.

It is though to be an interpretation of an eel type fish or sea creature in motion which represents a good sense of direction and helps guide navigation through life.
Other traditional elements that appear within the design are the Koru and the head styling which strongly resembles that of the Manaia.
The spiral form is the Koru, which represents a fern frond as it opens bringing purity and new life. It is also said to represent peace, tranquility, and spirituality along with a strong focus on regrowth or new beginnings and new life.
The Manaia form is another of the more ancient styles, representing a mythical beings often depicted with a bird's head and a human form. It is thought to be the messenger between the earthly world of mortals and the domain of the spirits. The Manaia is regarded as a kind deity, protecting and facilitating communicate with ancestors on the other side.
It is a holder of great spiritual energy and is seen as a guardian against evil.

This is a one of a kind piece by virtue of the amazing colours and textures in the deer antler so it will be removed from the gallery permanently when sold.

The large male deer or "stags" naturally drop their antlers at the end of the mating season every year and grow a new set the following year.
The material used for this carving is from these fallen antlers which means no animal has been harmed to obtain the materials for this carving.
