Kerewai Beetle SOLD original
Beetle Fine Art Original (Sold) - New Zealand Manuka - known as our Kerewai Beetle - Natural Wood Frame SOLD ($295) from my studio to an avid nature lover.
You can still buy a print on paper. See my other listing. It's the highest print quality on museum quality archival paper. A treasure for a lifetime.
This is my original oil pencil drawing of our NZ Manuka Beetle, known as the Kerewai. This original was created over many hours with multiple layers of coloured oil pencil on special heavy paper. The work accurately captures the bright glistening green colour and the bright iridescent colour the Kerewai is known for.
I created the original to look like found art from an earlier time. Perhaps an aged drawing by an early naturalist keen on recording these colourful creatures commonly found in the soil around our manuka or in the mud flats.
About the Kerewai - (from RNZ website) Critter of the Week in 2020
Aug 2020 Critter of the Week This week we are taking a look at the mānuka chafer beetle. They are a glorious bright metallic green and were set into jewellery throughout the Victorian era. Māori found that the beetles, known as kerewai, offer antiseptic qualities and the ability to reduce fevers and stomach-aches.

I add here from other online sources: This beetle was also known as the reporepowai beetle because of its habit of getting stuck in muddy stream banks (repo = mud, wai = water).
I have another beetle listed – the African Flower Beetle, also a scarab beetle.
One or both originals (if still available) make a lovely gift for any nature lover or person fond of history. Note: there is no shipping charges on my originals. Packed and couriered NZ wide.
Size
Framed size is approximately 34cm x 34cm square, natural timber and mat.
For less money you might prefer instead a high quality Giclée Fine Art Print - see my other listing for Giclée (Zhee-clay) printing on archival paper which is the highest standard of printing. To qualify for the title of a giclée print on paper, the process is done on archival quality coated paper, and printed with pigment based archival inks that ensure every hue and shade in the original work is reproduced.
The inks are UV stable but not bullet proof. I recommend that all my artwork, originals and giclee prints, be displayed out of direct sunlight. The paper is museum quality Hahnemuhle 310gsm, cold pressed, acid and lignin free, textured matte.
Payment and shipping Your original is packed once payment is received: NZ direct deposit, most major credit cards at PayPal (you do not need a PayPal account, it’s easy and safe). No charge on originals shipped NZ wide. Contact me for a quote on shipping to Australia.
