Artist's statement:
“I found working on this particular artwork therapeutic, since it seemed to allow for a sort of cathartic channelling (through the mediums added) of personal and collective human emotion, state of mind and sense of being, the presence of which I was feeling and sensing at the time.
"The artwork’s main composition of kawakawa leaves and unfurling korus (fern tendrils) − with all their inherent symbolism − perhaps played a key role in enabling this process to happen. But, if so, then it happened subconsciously.
"The multitude of emotions, qualities, states of mind and senses of being I felt channelled into the artwork include healing, hope, honesty, grief, the act of processing, spirituality, searching, longing, truth, listening to the heart, following the heart, dark, light, other-worldliness, ancestral connections and whisperings, callings, death, birth, retreat, heeding the call, depression, renewal, recovery, growth, re-growth and more.”
