Sailing ship vest

A revamp of a jacket in slub silk houndstooth using a vintage cushion cover.
Around the armholes I used a binding made from an upcycled cashmere shawl.
One of the pockets has a little strip of embroidery across the edge.
A stunning bird patch perched on the shoulder.( see close up )

I love the texture of this kind of silk .And the little random nubbles in the weave .
Its almost like a heavy linen,fairly warm as well as being lined for more warmth again.
Theres a nice mix of colours in the houndstooth pattern . Plum, maroon and blue on the camel background.
The shape is a nice flattering skim .

The heavy cotton cushion cover had never been completed (therefore in brand new condition ) and was too cute not to use.
Ive spent lots of hours filling in more of the embroidery then applique / patching it to the vest with blanket stitch.

finished off with a vintage button.
