Red Scarf No.1, Woodcut

‘Red Scarf #1′ is a two-coloured woodcut print on 300g acid free 100% cotton etching paper.

Autumn has returned to the night forest, and the red scarf keeps this little tree spirit nice and cosy.

Each print is signed, numbered and dated

Woodcut is a traditional relief printmaking technique - a set number of prints (an edition) is printed by the artist from a handmade plate. The drawing is cut into the plate with knifes. The finished plate is inked, and the ink is transferred onto cotton paper using a roller printing press -also referred to as hand-pulled prints.

The fine art cotton printing paper has deckled or torn edges. The sheets are damp when printed, and the plate is pressed into the paper with significant force, so the paper is no longer 100% flat. These slight irregularities are part of this technique - they give the print a ‘lively' touch.

Prints in one edition look very similar, but due to the handmade nature, are not perfect copies, and the image shown in this listing might not be of the print that is shipped. If in doubt, contact me, and I am happy to take a picture of the next print ready to be shipped in an edition.

The prints should be framed with a mat board so that the border of the paper is pressed to the backing of the frame, but the glass does not touch the inked area of the paper directly.
All prints are shipped in a cellophane bag and a rigid mailer.
