Red Felt Camellia Brooch

A friend attacked my garden with pruners and chainsaw one day ( in return for hemming some curtains). She apologised for chopping off lots of camellias and brought them into my sewing room. An idea was born.

It is about the size of a real camellia bloom, about 4.5" in diameter. There are three layers of gathered felt, topped with five petals. These are then embroidered with long stitch and french knots and finished with a vintage yellow button.

I wear mine on a green velvet jacket and on my favourite denim jacket. My mate wears hers in her hair!
I sew them one inch brooch pins, or if you prefer they can be made into hair ties
