Harakeke scarf.
Rich tones inspired by the colours found in New Zealand flax flowers. This is a long, warm scarf full of subtle colour play has been made by hand in 100% natural fine merino yarn.
My goal is to capture those beautiful hues and the way they blend in real life. I work from photographs and real flowers. Here I have used a simple "one and one" knit structure to mix coloured merino as I would paint!!
I feed the yarns into my needle bed sometimes row by row by hand as a weaver would. The process is slow but the idea is to create a unique piece, an art work that can be worn.
The nataral curl pulls the width in and the flare at the end add a floral organic feel to the shape of this Harakeke Scarf and emphasize its drape.
I have made several collections within this theme which have been featured in exhibition as well as prominent gallery shops.
This was such a fun piece to make with extremely top end quality, smooth spun, hand washable merino. (The quality suitable for manufacture of high end apparel). The result is a standout,unique, luxurious hand made accessory.
