Join me in my Virtual Studio to hand form your own illuminated fibre art tube.

You will choose silk fibres from a generous selection of colours, hand dyed by my favourite fibre-dying artisans. Learn how to subtly build up wispy fine layers of colour and texture to create an eye catching, delicate artwork

I will lead you step-by-step through the process, a dedicated camera will be focussed on the project throughout so that you can see in detail what I am doing. There will also be a camera on my face, so that the whole process feels more companionable :-)

During this class, you will learn the principles of fibre layout for fine felt, the use of silk fibres for surface design and felting around a resist. Your felted fibre art tube will be shaped and formed to slide snugly over a styrene tube support (this is the material that is used to support fabric lamp shades).

At the end of this workshop you will have a finished light tube requiring nothing more than a few hours to dry.

Once dry, watch your fibre art come to life as you arrange your 5m string of copper wire seed lights inside. These are powered via a USB, so no need for batteries - pop your artwork on your desk so that you can plug it into your computer or position it near any power outlet and plug it into a USB adaptor (the same one that you use to charge your cell phone is ideal!)

NOTE: The kit does NOT contain a USB adaptor (the bit that plugs into the wall), but you are welcome to order one for an additional $15 - see separate listing.

Finished Light Tube Size: Height - 30 cm, Diameter - 12 cm

How it Works:
Once you have completed your purchase of the workshop on this page, during which you will select your choice of silk colours….

- I send you your kit, which contains the link that you will need in order to schedule your workshop at a time that is convenient to you

- When you schedule the workshop, you will receive a confirmation email containing the detailed instructions for accessing my Virtual Studio.

- Read the instructions carefully and ensure that you have all of your equipment ready before your scheduled workshop time.

What your Kit will contain:
- A carefully weighed "bump" of softest New Zealand Merino Wool Fibre
- Silk fibres
- Resist
- Bubble Wrap (this is used in the felting process!
- Styrene tube to support your finished fibre art.
- Seed lights - 5m warm white on copper with with USB
- An instruction sheet with process photos to prompt you, should you want to make more light tubes after the workshop.

What Equipment you will need:
- A laptop computer or iPad with camera and microphone.
- A power source available close to where you will be working, so that you can keep your laptop or iPad plugged in.
- The workshop will take around 3.5 hours (less than a larger group workshop as you will have my undivided attention!) and you don’t want your device to die part way through!
- Reliable broadband - if you are able to stream video or video call your friends etc from your place, you should be fine.

Prior felting experience is beneficial, but not vital for this project.
