Inspiration
The legend of maui is that he travelled all around the pacific in his Waka navigating by the stars and doing many great feats like capturing the sun with only flax ropes to give us more time in the day. And the magical weapon like fishing hook made from a jawbone that he pulled up islands out of the ocean so we can live on them down here in the pacific and many more legends

Description
This hollow form is made from Silky Oak and has a flax weaving pattern down both sides and is pined with whale bone from a whales jawbone that washed up on the coast and was blessed. More photos available with email enquiry

The process of making it.

All these tubes are out of one block of wood that was 150mm sqeare to a wall thickness of 3.0mm and turned pins from 8mm all down to 3mm then wood branded a flax weave pattern on it.

The finish
Hand sea sponged painted inside and polyurethane to lock in and last a life time
