Kina Shell - Green & White

These green Sea Urchin or Kina Shell earrings are made with pieces of real shell.

All of my shells are hand-picked by me (or my husband), while we're out beachcombing. Only completely empty shells are collected, and even though they were empty when collected, the shells have been thoroughly soaked and cleaned before being treated with a clear coat of acrylic to enhance and protect the natural colors.

These particular pieces of shell come from a whole shell that was found in a tide pool at the base of the cliffs along the beach walk to Army Bay in 2019. All holes have been carefully hand-drilled, and the earrings assembled with love.

The colour, pattern and edge on each of the earrings does differ slightly due to the natural variations in the shell. They are a matching pair (from the same shell) and are very similar in shape, colour and size, as seen in the photos. They have been scrubbed cleaned with a soft brush, sun dried for a week and then coated with an acrylic coating to help strengthen the shell and prevent the colour from fading. The brownish colour seen on the shell in the photos is a khaki (greenish brown) coloured stripe in the shell's natural colouring.

These earrings are a unique set, as no two shells will ever have the exact same colour, shape or pattern.
