Te Anau is known as the gateway to Fiordland as it serves as the main access town to the Fiordland National Park and Milford Sound.
The Lake is the largest on New Zealand's South Island covering 344 km2 (133 sq mi).

This detailed wood carving depicts the outline of the lake. It is hand-made from reclaimed Tōtara beams that spent most of their life as a Canterbury church roof. After the 2011 earthquake the church was deconstructed and here at the Bearwood Workshop in Wanaka we have repurposed this unique piece of New Zealand history giving it another lease of life.
