Lake Wanaka, at an altitude of 278 meters, covering an area of 192 km² is New Zealand's fourth largest lake. The town's proximity to Mt Aspiring National Park and it's outstanding beauty attracts visitors from all over the world each year.
This detailed wood carving depicts the outline of the lake. It is hand-made from reclaimed Tōtara beams that spent most of their life as a Canterbury church roof. After the 2011 earthquake the church was deconstructed and here at the Bearwood Workshop in Wanaka we have repurposed this unique piece of New Zealand history giving it another lease of life.
Wanaka is a place especially close to our hearts as it is the home of Bearwood Workshop, to us Wanaka is an inspiration source, a playground and a home.
