My name is Chris O'Regan and I am a metalsmith working in the Celtic tradition.
This original work is inspired by traditional Celtic design, and is titled "Wolves".
It was influenced by a detail from the Book of Kells, an 9th Century Irish manuscript.
Liber Genertionis page (folio 29r),
Gospel of Matthew.
The Wolf is a common theme in Celtic artwork,it represents determination, family and wisdom.
This piece is handcrafted,individually
etched and patinated (chemically coloured)
by myself and so each work is unique.
A resist is applied of the pattern to the copper,so when it is etched in acid,a bottom layer is eaten away and a top layer is left where no copper is dissolved.
The piece is then dipped into a chemical liquid that turns it entirely black, permanently.
It is sanded with sandpaper stripping the patination off the top layer revealing the copper but leaving it black on the lower surface.
The copper is finished with a clear acrylic spray to protect the work.
The Brooch is fitted with an antiquated Brass Pin.
Comes with a card with a description of the work and how it is made.
Made from recycled copper.

Size 50 mm (2 inches) across
