Kererū (Wood Pigeon) in the Kowhai
A distinctly New Zealand-ish whimsical magnetic set by tinch - at long last after many requests for more 'native & kiwiana' designs following our top-selling Fantail....

A set of 9 handmade magnets, to form a sweet scene of a Kererū birdie perched on a Kowhai branch:
1 Kererū birdie
1 branch (measures approx 200mm wide)
5 Kowhai heart/flowers to form a cluster
2 Kowhai pods

Inspired by our frequent friendly Kererū visitors to our plum trees this summer, I love that you always hear these large (almost clumsy) feathered fellows before you see them!

Lovingly handmade to upcycle selected materials:
Some of them are materials that you once might have seen in your grandparent's home, or may still be spotted in the odd kiwi bach. They've been salvaged from the imminent fate of ending up at various New Zealand landfills. Transformed through context, their colours, textures and patterns are designed to be celebrated in New Zealand homes once again, in a sort of nostalgic, (almost kitsch) subtle way.

The genuine vintage pearlescent wallpaper on Kererū's chest was purchased 40 years ago by my very own Nana to adorn their walls. It's quality and detailing supersedes many current wall treatments. It catches the light beautifully.

Arrange the scene however you like - this is designed to be enjoyed as interactive art. It's beautiful and functional - use the magnetic pieces to hold reminders, shopping lists, photos, recipes, or just enjoy it as it is as unique fridge-art.

Designed for use on any magnetic surface, it fits a fridge beautifully, or you may like to paint a magnetic board or wall especially to display and interact with it.

Tactile and textured, they're guaranteed to be well admired.
Strictly limited edition due to the fact they're made of the last traces of various vintage textiles.
Each set is unique - pattern placements will be unique to each set, especially noticeable in the birdie - as you would expect subtle nuances of colour and markings in every Kererū you meet around the country.

This is a thoughtful gift for any occasion - house warmings, birthdays, and especially for the homesick kiwi abroad.
Designed to be posted flat like a letter internationally, think of your expat friends and family!

From Department of Conservation website, retrieved 6 Feb 2013:
"The kererū is a large bird with irridescent green and bronze feathers on its head and a smart white vest. The noisy beat of its wings is a distinctive sound in our forests...."

Create a magnetic canvas on any ordinary surface for these to stick to.
You could paint a wall, or large board or canvas. We recommend Resene 'Magnetic Magic' - we've used it in several areas around the home and studio, it's quick and easy to paint and a top coat of any colour can be painted on top - that way the magnetic area is disguised and appears to work like magic!

It's a really unique way to decorate a room - tinch magnetic wall art can be customised and rearranged to suit the space.
