Oxford Chalk watercolour paint
NZ $10.00
Artist quality, handmade paint from a New Zealand pigment. Oxford Chalk is made from chalk from Oxford, which is then hand-ground into powder, and turned into paint using a traditional watercolour recipe, consisting of gum arabic, glycerine or honey water, ox-gall, oil of cloves (preservative) and distilled water. The paint is then pressed into watercolour half-pans.
Oxford Chalk paint can be mixed with my other colours to create pastel shades. All the paints are mixable with others. The earth colours are fairly opaque, but this depends on how much pigment is loaded onto the brush. Mineral paints, like Waikari green or Summit red are more transparent.
It is quite normal for some of these dried watercolour paints to crack in the pan. This is no way detracts from their use. The beauty of watercolour paint that has dried on the palette is that it can be reused by moistening at any time. (Tip: dried out tubes of watercolour paint can be cut open lengthwise and used in the same way as pan paints.)
