Hand Crocheted Poppy the Pukeko
On the twelfth day of Christmas,
My true love gave to me,
Twelve piupius swinging,
Eleven haka lessons,
Ten juicy fish heads,
Nine sacks of pipis,
Eight plants of puha,
Seven eels a swimming,
Six pois a twirling,
Five - big - fat - pigs!
Four huhu grubs,
Three flax kits,
Two Kumera,
And a Pukeko in a Ponga tree!!
If you know this song, then you know how iconic are our native pukeko.
Poppy the Pukeko is lovingly hand crocheted from my home in New Zealand,and made from 100% cotton yarn. She is filled with polyester hobby fibrefill. Acrylic yarn is substituted when cotton yarn is unavailable.
Poppy's full name on her birth certificate is Porphyrio melanotus but that sounds complicated so we just call her Poppy the Pukeko for short.
Poppy sits 23cm (9 inches tall).
Even though Poppy has wings, she's a pretty clumsy flyer so prefers swimming to places instead of flying.
Poppy would love to be owned by a little boy or girl who likes swimming and making lots of noise. Alternatively, she'd feel just at home with an adult who just likes birds.
Poppy comes from a non-smoking, pet free home.

Warning: Not suitable for children under 3 years. Contains small parts. However, I can replace Poppy's safety eyes with yarn eyes to make her safer for kids under 3 years.
