Native to North America and Canada, this lovely drought-tolerant flowering herb is beloved of honey bees and beneficial insects.
Anise Hyssop plants can grow up to 1.2m high, topped by 10-15cm dense spikes of tiny mauve flowers that last for much of the summer. The leaves can be used medicinally and culinarily, in teas or salads (try them in a fruit salad!). Their anise scent is also a nice addition to potpourri.
Anise hyssop grows easily from seed, sown direct or in trays in spring or autumn. It self-seeds readily once established.
