A delicious savoury addition to both Western and Asian cooking, garlic chives are easy to grow. They have distinctive strappy leaves and a flavour more like garlic than chives.
Their white flowers are both ornamental and attractive to beneficial insects. They die down in winter in colder climates but will re-sprout and multiply again in spring from their perennial clumps of rhizomes, which can eventually be split for more plants.
Sow direct from spring to summer in a sunny spot. Water sparingly but regularly. Self-seeds readily. Grows to about 35cm in height and width.
