Mosaic Art - Te ngahere - Forest Lore

In Maori tradition, people and forests are vitally connected - both were created by the god Tane. A magical realm guarded by lizards, birds and other creatures, the forest also provided Maori with the necessities of life. They depended on its trees and shrubs for food, medicines, building materials and clothing.

The forest is called by many names - ngahere, ngherehere, nehenehe, ngahengahe, wao, waonui and waoku.

This is my adaptation of the forest. It is made from mixed media, including stained glass, millefiori, crystal, micro ceramic, vitreous tiles and shimmer glass.

It measures 400mm by 400mm. The base is 8mm MDF and so is only suitable for an indoor setting ( I am more than happy to make one for outdoors on suitable base if you want one.)

It is grouted in black and the grout has also been sealed. The back of the plaque is painted and it comes ready to hang.

A great handmade presie.
