Medieval people (just like us) liked to accessorise - and the bling for the masses was made of pewter. These pewter mounts are based on pieces from medieval and renaissance Europe, dating from the 12th to the 16th century. They're handmade in the traditional way - individually cast in hand-carved soapstone moulds.

This listing is for a set of SIX pewter mounts with a shield design (which, for re-enactors involved in the Society for Creative Anachronism, is the people's badge of the Kingdom of Lochac, able to be worn by anyone). The face of each mount is 14mm wide and 17mm high. They have a long shank (at least 10mm) on the back, which you trim to the desired depth and then peen over to create a secure attachment.

Full instructions on how to attach these mounts are included with your purchase. You'll need a ball peen hammer or other small hammer, a pair of pliers with a cutter and a small piece of leather or thick card to cushion the face of the mount as you attach it.

These mounts were traditionally used on leather, to decorate belts, straps and satchels (see picture 3), but you could use them on thick fabrics with a washer (see my other listings) or thick card for paper crafts.

These mounts are made from lead-free pewter (lead poisoning might be historically accurate but really, do we actually want to go that far?) and, like all pewter, will develop a matt patina with time. As these mounts are hand-cast in stone moulds, small variations in their finish are part of their nature.

I hope you enjoy wearing these little bits of history as much as I enjoy making them.
