Blood In A Graveyard earrings: distressed verdigris crosses with blood-red glass

Gothic crosses, made of brass with a grungy, distressed, verdigris patina, hang beneath drops of deep red glass threaded onto arched, gunmetal-black ear-wires.
The ornate, begrimed crosses look like something that has been abandoned in a graveyard for many years.

The cross charms have been hand patinated by another artisan using a special mix of chemicals. I then sealed the charms with clear varnish to preserve the new finish. The patina varies from charm to charm, so each pair of these earrings is a tiny bit different, though the crosses have been chosen to match each other as closely as possible. The first photograph shows the variation possible in the patina, with one cross lighter and greener in colour than the other, while the third photograph shows the back of one of the charms and the front of another.
Czech glass is famous worldwide for its high quality. These faceted beads, in a rich garnet hue, are translucent, with unusual, stony-looking edges. The 'stony' edge is a dark, greenish, stippled or mottled colour that complements the verdigris of the cross charms and looks almost like tarnish. Three windows in the finish allow the deep red colour of the glass to show through when the light hits it.

The 'Blood In A Graveyard' earrings measure 57mm from top to bottom. The cross charms are 26mm long and 19mm wide. The ear-wires are copper based and are without nickel.
Keeping these earrings hanging, rather than jumbled up in a jewellery box, will help to ensure that the ear-wires do not get opened or bent by other jewellery pieces pushing against them.
