Owls perching - whimsical magnetic decals

These little owls are designed to be something halfway between art and play. They're delightfully addictive in their arrangement possibilities. You see, they're magnetic. They're for those places in the home that littlies and grownups like to loiter; the kitchen fridge is a hot-spot.

These were the first in my series of whimsical characters designed to be wallscapes in our home. They've been admired so much locally, that I'd like to see how far their little upcycled wings can fly via Felt.

Each set has interactive components; wings can move, leaves can be repositioned form an ever changing tree, there are hearts that form flowers and elaborate birds tails...

This owl and branch set has 7 separate magnets:

* 2 x wings
* 1 x quirky branch to perch on
* 2 leaves.
As a guide, the branch measures about 20cm long

Each set is crafted from offcuts of all sorts of materials; they're tactile and textured made of scraps of wallpaper, wrapping paper, pre-loved buttons, homemade pillowcases, wedding dress fabric offcuts... they're made from things that were once very different or otherwise destined to be thrown away.

One day as I was making our daughter a bib out of a cute apple-print t-shirt I found at a local op-shop I looked twice at the oddly-shaped offcuts and envisioned the start of what was to become my community of whimsical characters... As a hoarding designer, my offcuts are cherished - knowing they'll come to life eventually.

Some of my local supporters have used a set for each child on the fridge to hold onto school notices, some have been bought for owl-loving mothers-in-law, some are bought explicitly to transform a child's room as an interactive approach to wall decals (using magnetic paint), some become the holders of precious family photos, some just are loved as fridge art.

So, you have a fridge, and everyone you know has a fridge. You also have oven trays, and probably a washing machine, radiators that aren't used in summer, but still live in the rooms... There are lots of magnetic places around the home that can become the scene of a visual narrative. The fridge really is a hot-spot, and so is a feature wall with a coat of magnetic paint.

They're an ideal gift for so many occasions; baby showers, house warming, the person who has everything, engagements (esp my lovebirds)...

They're super slim and postage friendly, can slip inside a gift card to post economically around the world.

As I make them from offcuts only, each set is guaranteed to be limited edition. I'm more than happy to create a set to a general colour theme, and welcome custom orders - just ask!
