Felt Newsletter – August 2009

There's just two weeks to go until Spring, and I can't wait for longer, warmer days, but that said, it's been a colourful, crafty winter. June saw Craft2.0 livening up the central city in Christchurch with cupcakes, coffee and all manner of crafty goodness. Lower Hutt got the Craft2.0 treatment in July, and it was a fabulous day with an impressive array of gorgeous goods. August had Christchurch bursting into flower...

Craft slips into the Christchurch Arts Festival

For the past two months Felt has been sponsoring Slip, a collaborative knit and crochet installation for the Christchurch Arts Festival. Inspired by the WinterGarden, Slip consisted of french knitted vines, which wound their way up lamp posts and trees in Cathedral Square throughout the duration of the festival. Crochet flowers bloomed in brilliant colour to brighten up the lives of Christchurch commuters, who delighted in "picking" them and pinning them to coats, hats and scarves.

Around 50 crocheters were involved in making more than 1000 flowers to give away. You can check out more photos of the installation on the Slip blog, or head along to New Brighton Library in late October for the encore.

Handmade gifts for Dad this Father's Day

Father's Day is just around the corner, but there's still time to find something special for Dad. We've picked out some great gifts for guys - check out the Felt Father's Day showcase.

In the lead up to Christmas I'm keen to promote the whole handmade gift-giving package: gift wrap, gift tags, greetings cards, decorations and stocking stuffers - but there's currently a bit of a shortage on Felt. If you know someone who makes any of these things, why not forward this email to them?

Felt continues to grow from strength to strength with your support, and I love the sense of community that is building around it. It's really cool to see the Felt forum gaining momentum and a great thing to have so many people coming together through a shared appreciation of things handmade. Thank you for being a part of it!
