arwenace blog

Here’s a great way to relax, cosy up and ease your aches this winter. Swheat Bags from Arwen Ace are sweetened with lovely lavender, to aid relaxation while the wheat does its warming work. They come in a variety of shapes and sizes and have specially sewn channels to make them super mouldable to your needs.

Arwen tells us she’s been gifting her Swheat Bags to the kids at Ronald McDonald House in Auckland and Christchurch, and the feedback is that they’re loving them. Awesome work, Arwen!

Five indulgences for a winter’s night

Friday, June 6th, 2014

With everything being rather chilly and dark outside at the moment, who’d say no to an indulgence or two (or five)? We’ve picked out some treats that have more than a little appeal for the winter evenings.

1. A snuggly blanket

There’s nothing better than curling up on the couch, wrapped in a blanket, when the storms are howling or the frost is settling outside. Especially if you can add…

2. A mug of something comforting

Tea, coffee, hot chocolate, mulled wine – whatever your favourite hot drink, a mug of something good warms the fingers and the tum. Speaking of tums…

3. A sweet treat

is just what you need to comfort body and soul. Maybe you could share them as bribery for…

4. … a warming massage

Massage candles are a great way to avoid the shock of cold massage oil – the last thing you need in winter! Soy massage candles melt at a temperature that is safe and pleasant to apply directly. And once you’re completely relaxed, why not wrap up your indulgent winter evening with…

4. A cute hottie!

Take that however you like. :-)

Five ways to beat the chill

Thursday, May 15th, 2014

Winter has its share of delights – crisp clear mornings, cosy evenings by the fire, snow – but there’s no denying the cold weather can be hard on a body. We’ve been hunting for ways to make winter more comfortable and cosy.

1. Treat your skin.

Chapped lips, chapped hands – the effects of a cold wind are no fun at all. To ease and prevent skin damage try some of the huge range of handmade skincare products from our bath and beauty pages.

2. Enjoy the warm.

Did someone mention baths? There’s nothing like a nice hot bath to warm you to the core. Why not make it extra luxurious with some bathtime goodies?

3. Keep those toes toasty.

Fleece, felt, crochet or knit – we’ve got the goods for all sorts of feet.

4. Wrap up well.

Hats, gloves, scarves and shawls. Make it warm and make it stylish with our range of winter accessories.

5. Embrace the season.

If you can’t beat it – just love it anyway.

The dead of winter comes to life

Tuesday, June 25th, 2013

In the cold of the Christchurch winter it’s nice to know that bustling, cheerful and quirky markets continue to provide bright spots in the crafting year. The latest off-beat offering from The Craft Collective (in association with CPIT and Felt), The Dead of Winter Market, promises to be just such a warm and colourful event…

While you’re there why not say hello to this talented bunch, all of whom also sell their fabulous creations here on Felt?

You’ll find The Dead of Winter Market at the CPIT Student Union building, off Madras Street, on Saturday 29 June from 10am until 3pm. You can also find out more about it beforehand by visiting the Craft Collective’s website or their Facebook page.

Keeping cosy

Hottie covers like this gorgeous crocheted design from Rosa Mayde have to be the ultimate winter home accessory. They make your hot water bottle look cute when it’s not in use and it stays hot for longer when it is in use, which means nice warm feet and a comfy night’s sleep on those cold winter nights. They’re also a great way to save on power if you’re sitting and working at home, not to mention a super snuggle buddy on the couch when you’re having a duvet day. What’s not to love?
