This made to order hand-carved abstract fantail sculpture from Bearwood Workshop is hand crafted from locally sourced fallen mountain beech timber that has been seasoned for three years in the workshop prior to carving. Each wooden bird is lovingly carved from a custom selected bit timber to provide its own unique grain pattern and character and perches elegantly on its own little perch.
Gracing the cover of our Christmas Catalogue this year with their elegant form, these beautiful birds by Bearwood Workshop are handcarved in Wanaka from Tasmanian Blackwood or Mountain Beech. Inspired by the korimako or New Zealand bellbird, each one is unique, with its own grain pattern and character. After years of working as a designer in many different disciplines, running his own consultancy and clocking up the air miles with large corporations as clients, he decided to shed it all and go back to his roots. His days are now spent following his passion: designing and making simple, beautiful, sustainable items that will stand the test of time.
