Tui cavorting, singing and enjoying the nectar of fresh new blossoms are one of the delights of spring. We took a walk though our listings and found that our talented makers have been inspired to produce some striking creations featuring this gorgeous muse.
The daffodils are out, the sunshine is warming up (when it’s not raining!) and the mumma bumblebees are out hunting for homes. Hooray for springtime!
Printmaker Emily Cater has a busy and interesting life – which includes performing in a handmade mermaid and mariner dress with her band Mermaid and Mariner! She’s also just taken part in the Auckland Art and Craft Fair and is currently working on some giant landscape paintings and a new zine. These diverse and colourful interests shine through in her gorgeous range of Miss Crow prints.

Much like the mid-century modern architectural and design movement, a core note of contemporary design is simplicity, functionality and clean lines. Decoration is sparing and striking, while colour can be bold or limited to the barest accents.
To discover Allan Gale you have to take an adventure to the secluded and wild bush valley of Waiotemarama in the Hokianga. His intricate prints explore and reflect the many wonders of nature found around him and showcase one of the oldest wood engraving and printing techniques in existence today.
Graphic designer and illustrator Katie Wilson takes inspiration from the microcosmos of life in her backyard, capturing it in beautiful, delicate watercolours and whimsical textile products. Katie is a founding member of the Felt community and can be found at many of Christchurch’s maker markets. She loves overcast days, avocados, walking her over-enthusiastic dog, dreaming of an abundant vegetable garden and collecting twigs.
