Share a Cuppa: Kurinuki Yunomi with Jenny Wilson

Kurinuki Yunomi Kit Set from General Pottery

Join Christchurch potter Jenny Wilson to make a Kurinuki Yunomi, as part of Share a Cuppa, a community event celebrating the ritual of a good cup of tea.

Conceived during the Covid-19 Level 4 lockdown and created in partnership with the Ceramics Association of New Zealand and Creative New Zealand, Share a Cuppa offers the opportunity to get creative and get involved with a series of make-along tutorials for home potters, and the commission of 40 studio potters around Aotearoa to make four tea cups, which are now being packaged as artisan tea gift sets and will be available through Share a Cuppa on Felt from 29th to 31st August.

Jenny is a first generation New Zealander of Chinese and British descent, and a graduate of the Diploma in Ceramic Arts course from Otago Polytechnic. “Connection to the landscape and to the cycles of nature is important to me. Kurinuki (“carved out”) vessels remind me of the patterns of destruction and creation in the earth beneath my feet. Living on the lower slopes of Banks Peninsula, the shearing force of earthquakes has particular salience.” Jenny’s Kurinuki cups and other creations can be found in her Felt shop, One Green Leaf.

The kitset to make a Kurinuki Yunomi with Jenny is available from General Pottery, and you can follow the video tutorial below or on Vimeo.

  1. Just saw your ceramics in Little River Gallery and absolutely love your bowls. I would have liked to buy one but have no money at the moment. Hoping it is still there when I get some. I really liked it.
