Bizarre bras and skating samurai – must be WOW time again!

RE-DECKED by Sebastian Denize

Felt is proud to pass on the news that Felt seller Sebastian Denize took out first place in the World of WearableArt‘s Bizarre Bras section for 2014. The multi-talented Sebastian is a maker who works in many media and sells his pewter work on Felt as Hand Cast Pewter. His supportive piece, entitled “Re-Decked,” was made entirely from recycled skateboards! He entered WOW for the first time last year, with two pieces co-created with his partner Jo Drysdall making the finals.

WINTER BLOSSOM, by Tatyanna Meharry & Natasha Meharry

Also finalists this year were Tatyanna Meharry (The Busy Finch on Felt), who along with her sister Natasha created the ceramic bra “Not just a Label,” and the Weta Costume and Film finalist piece “Winter Blossom,” and Jo Drysdall, Felt’s customer support specialist and creator of the menacing “Perceived Threat” in the Weta Workshops Costume and Film section.

The many ceramic tags in Tatyanna and Natasha’s bizarre bra were embossed with slang labels for breasts – yes, there really are quite a number! Their beautiful “Winter Blossom” dress and headpiece was made from ceramic, nylon and billboard sheeting. Tatyanna and Natasha also won the Supreme Award last year for their haunting and stunningly intricate piece “The Exchange.”

Jo’s samurai/skater figure, “Perceived Threat,” represents the often absolutely false perception of threat that some people feel when viewing groups of youths on our streets and in our parks. His coat was made from hundreds of discarded 80s shoulderpads! Jo is a previous section winner in the Illuminated Illusion section 2012 and is in her third year of entering WOW. She confesses she is utterly addicted, encouraging all makers to “Just give it a go – it’s so much fun!”
