A tiny ecosphere in glass

This stunningly delicate flower implosion pendant is the work of Waikato glass lampworker Bobbie Pene, and it takes our breath away.

Bobbie says “Each flower is a one of a kind created using a technique called implosion. Tiny dots and stripes of coloured molten glass are painted onto a clear disc of glass, which is then carefully heated to pull the colours into a flower form. The shape of the glass is free formed to highlight the floral design, and a glass bail is added for hanging the pendant. As soon as the flower has been created, it is placed in a digitally controlled kiln for several hours to anneal, strengthening the glass. This pendant has two implosions flowers that have been fused together and wrapped around one another.”

We’re in awe of Bobbie’s skill (and undoubtedly steady hands!). See more of her beautiful work here.
