When I'm not touring round Expos, markets and fairs introducing the Gourmet Caramel Apples to people, I'm looking after my hubby, 3 kids, 2 cats, a scruffy Sidney Silkie and a goofy but totally lovable deaf Boarder Collie in Tokomaru. I also work for the NZ Fire Service as a First Aid Instructor with a reputation for Moulage (realistic wound make up), and am involved with the local Volunteer Brigade as a firefighter since 2002. My most tragic job? You don't think I'm gonna tell that surely, but close second was seeing the aftermath of a train derailment from which the spilled cargo was wine.... ;)

The name SmashPalace is a nod to the great iconic kiwi movie, starring the late Bruno Lawrence. The name suited my then little hobby of cutting up mosaic pieces and back-stamps from old china to sell to mosaic artists. This was a few years ago now and since then have had great fun making and selling Fugs, quirky little monsters made from socks.

More recently, I have started making Gourmet Caramel Apples which, since I first made them as party favours for my eldest's 10th birthday party in November 2010, have showcased in the NZ House and Garden (Oct 2011) and had many sell out Expos and markets.

The idea of Gourmet Caramel Apples came from a tradition me and my good friend Jaimee, an American FF/Medic had before the International Firefighters Stairclimb in Seattle, where we would buy a couple of awesome gourmet caramel apples in Seattle and stash them in our hotel room to indulge after the climb, when our diets could relax a bit!

My boys, also, have just started their own old fashioned, homemade sherbet business, selling alongside me at Expos and markets. They are doing great for 10 and 11 year olds and are enjoying the extra savings and learning the finer details about marketing and selling.

My latest "baby" is a 1970s record player, and my vinyl collection is growing, my favourites including Lennon, Bowie, Pink Floyd, U2, the Kinks, Tom Petty and some 80s classics that we totally disowned with embarrassment during the 90's and 00's but have nostalgically welcomed back into the fold of late. My kids are the only kids I know who can change and stack vinyl. Tops.

When I'm not chilling in my fave retro cane nest-chair lost in vinyl, I'm watching UK shows like Life on Mars, and its spin off Ashes to Ashes, or laughing totally inappropriately at Green Wing and Monty Python.

Thanks for looking at my "shop", feel free to check out my FB page Smash Palace, or leave me a note if you have any questions or orders.

:)
