Welcome to Southern Cross Flutes, a home for the Contemporary Native American Flutes (NAF) that I craft. My names is Todd Chaplin, and I live and craft my flutes in Wellington. These beautiful flutes captivate the hearts and minds of people around the world. With their deep evocative melodies and resonating tones, playing and listening creates a unparalleled experience of harmony, healing, and joy.

Having played the Native American Flute for several years, I have travelled during this time through Asia while being blessed to allow others to experience this flute through my playing. I now feel a great privilege in creating these wonderful flutes to allow others to play. Making the NAF is a creative joy, and I endeavour to create flutes that evoke the deep soulful resonance, in local woods and with environmentally considerate materials.

I offer my deepest respects and blessings to Matt Shooting Star, who selflessly taught me the craft in his home in Australia, and also to Guillermo Martinez, my previous mentor and guide. Guillermo accepted me into his home, his family, his life completely and unquestionably. Guillermo's patience and art as a teacher guided my passion and I'm honoured to have lived with him. I also offer great gratitude to the Native American traditions, through which the NAF was brought to life and today continues in various forms.
