Hello and welcome. My name is Bobbie Pene and I want to thank you for your interest in my handmade jewellery and gifts.

I live in Auckland, New Zealand with my very patient and understanding husband, and three beautiful children. I have a post graduate diploma in Health Science and currently work in a management role as a registered nurse.

When I'm not being a mum, wife or nurse, I love playing with hot glass. Lampwork is an age old process used to create small glass art such as beads. Murano, Italy is the home of lampwork where glass was melted over an oil lamp (hence the name) to create miniature works of glass art. Today with modern technology the same techniques apply, but a propane/oxygen gas torch is used in most cases.

The design and color possibilities are endless, and there is so much experimenting to do. I use soft glass (soda lime) to create my lampwork glass beads. Because each bead is completely made by hand, each is unique and no two will ever be exactly the same. When a glass bead is complete, it will go straight into a digitally controlled kiln for several hours to anneal. Annealing removes stresses in the glass that are formed during heating and cooling. Annealing strengthens the bead and reduces spontaneous cracking. You can be assured that your bead/s will last a lifetime (with a little care of course).

When the lampworking muse fails, I head for my stash of beads and findings and get creative with jewellery. My jewellery designs are eclectic and incorporate a variety of materials and techniques. All these creations are made in my little garage studio.
