Hello and welcome. My name is Bobbie Pene and I am the creator of all these beautiful beads.
I have always had a creative outlet of some sort - dabbling with jewellery making of various forms since my school days, as well as fiber and paper arts and crafts. More recently, I began exploring jewellery making further, and by chance I found the Born to Bead studio and its curator - Lisa-Jane Harvey. Lisa-Jane taught me the invaluable basics to lampworking, and I have since developed these skills through countless hours of practice. There is magic captured in each bead I create, and I love the curiosity that glass offers to those who peruse. I now have a studio in my home here in Pukekohe, Franklin, New Zealand, where I can create lampwork glass beads, and gorgeous jewellery and accessories.
I experimented with lining my glass beads with sterling silver cores to compliment leading customised jewellery lines such as the European charm bracelets made by Pandora, Chamilia, Biagi and Troll to name a few. Through much trial and error I have now sourced good sterling silver tubing to use as a core, and perfected the technique.
Each glass bead is handmade by me using quality glass from around the world. I anneal each bead in a kiln for several hours to remove the stresses caused by heating and cooling glass. This gives the beads strength and durability. I then add a single piece of sterling silver core to the centre of the bead, and flare it around the glass to prevent it falling out.
The beads I make are unique, and only a few of the same design / colour will be made, so you can rest assured that you will be one of the few who will ever have a bead like the one/s you choose from me.
Thank you for visiting
