A friend attacked my garden with pruners and chainsaw one day ( in return for hemming some curtains). She apologised for chopping off lots of camellias and brought them into my sewing room. An idea was born. She has dark brunette hair and the resulting hair tie looks gorgeous and gets lots of comments.
It is about the size of a real camellia bloom, about 4.5" in diameter. There are three layers of gathered felt, topped with five petals. These are then embroidered with long stitch and french knots and finished with a vintage yellow button.
I sew them tightly onto hair ties, or if you prefer they can be attached to a brooch pin.
