Sock Monkey [Pronunciation: sok muhng-kee] - where something ordinary becomes something extraordinary.

During the Depression, store bought toys were desirable but unattainable extravagances. Thrifty mothers, accustomed to using materials over & over, refashioned worn socks into various toy creatures for their children to play with. The sock monkey was born!

Each of us is a unique character, made by hand and gifted to humans who eventually come to feel that we are a necessary part of their lives. Often, the devotion bestowed on us surpasses that shown to comfort creatures of more commercial origin. Perhaps humans realise that we are individuals just like they are.

Donny Yell is hand crafted from one pair of socks New Zealand made socks and stands around 30cm tall. His eyes are safe for little people and big people because they attach from inside the sock so present little chance of coming loose. He is stuffed with a mix of fabric off-cuts and acrylic polyfil, but just because his insides are synthetic don't think he lacks substance!

Care for us: We monkeys love attention. Take us everywhere with you and let us frolic and play freely. We don't mind having a wash when we are dirty but please make it warm, gentle and by hand.
