Description
Small and ladylike but with a bit of quirk! Teardrop shaped, silver coloured glass beads, with curiously bulging contours, are topped by jet-black glass rosebuds with hard, chiselled-looking edges. Above each black rosebud is a tiny, silver plated filigree bead. The earrings are finished with gunmetal black ear-hooks.
The rosebud beads have a hard, gleaming surface, like the jet (lignite) beads used in Victorian mourning jewellery. Like coal, jet is made from trees that have decomposed under pressure, forming a hard, shiny, black or dark brown substance.
These 'jet' beads are in fact made of firepolished Czech glass, which is famous worldwide for its high quality. Firepolishing is a technique whereby the glass beads are 'polished' by subjecting them to a very hot flame, creating a bright, shiny surface. Firepolished glass sparkles almost like crystal – or, in this case, like jet.
The 'Drops Of Silver And Jet' earrings measure 45mm from top to bottom. From the bottom of the ear hooks, the drops measure 28mm.
These simple yet unusual earrings come with little plastic stoppers to help prevent the ear hooks from working their way out of the wearer's ears.
The ear hooks are copper based and are without nickel, so most people with sensitive ears should be fine wearing these earrings. However, if you would prefer hypoallergenic, surgical steel ear hooks, simply request them in the ‘notes to silverlight' field when you check out of Felt. I’ll change them over at no charge.
