Description
A Day on Grandad's Boat was written by me, Rachel Lees, in 2007. It is all about the quintessential kiwi childhood. This story comes straight out of my childhood with my Grandad and our family dogs when I grew up in Marlborough, but it could be any New Zealand child's grandfather, dogs and childhood memories.
We Kiwi's are among the most fortunate people in the world, living in our beautiful, unique islands with our interesting history and our in-built pioneering, adventurous can-do spirit.
This story is set in Picton and the Marlborough Sounds, with recognisable landmarks and features of that beautiful place, and featuring native birds and fish of New Zealand.
The text is in a fun, child-friendly font with simple language, and is a 36 page full-colour book, with a large original, colourful illustration on one side, and the corresponding simple text on the opposite. Perfect for reading to a toddler before bedtime - not too short, not too long, and plenty of interest to keep them absorbed. I've had many people write and tell me that this is their grandchild's favourite bedtime story.
This book is self-published by me, and illustrated by my friend and art teacher, the talented June Pearson, a Christchurch artist.
It would make a wonderful gift for a new baby, for grandparents to give their grandchildren, or even just to add to your own child's library.
