An etching with very fine lines and attention to detail. Drawn by hand by fine artist Mike Southern. "Kiwi II". Part of the "New Zealand Aviary" series. This rare bird was drawn from the collection of the Canterbury Museum in Christchurch, New Zealand.

A word about etching: The process saw its origins in the early Renaissance and has been popular with artists for centuries. The drawing is scratched into a copper plate with a needle and a variety of other techniques. Ink is then rubbed into these marks and the image is transferred to the paper by running the copper plate through a very heavy etching press.
