A friend attacked my garden with pruners and chainsaw one day ( in return for hemming some curtains). She apologised for chopping off lots of camellias and brought them into my sewing room. An idea was born.

I made a red camellia out of felt and she commented it would look great as a hair tie... so she got the original red one that afternoon- it's her in the photo

This one is also based on one of the camellias in my garden. I wear one like this on my red jacket, my green velvet jacket, on denim, with a cardy. It is so versatile!

It is about the size of a real camellia bloom, about 4.5" in diameter. There are three layers of gathered felt, topped with five petals. These are then embroidered with long stitch and french knots and finished with a vintage yellow button.
I sew them tightly to a brooch pin, or if you prefer they can be attached onto hair ties,
