best places to find second hand fabrics in your town?I live in Hamilton, the salvation army store on barton street is always the place to find an interesting piece of fabric
But now my fabric is taking over my tiny flat...I'm starting to stack on top of bookcases ect just to get it off the floor and from under foot. I'm so luck my boyfriend finds my crafting cute instead of annoying Do you have storage issues too? |

Re: best places to find second hand fabrics in your town?I did have storage issues for many many years, for my books. I'd advise patience - eventually you will find that place that has enough room for you to put it all tidily.
After 20 years of stashing boxes and boxes and boxes of books in corners, i now finally live in a house that's big enough for me to have 98% of my books in one room - appropriately called "My Cave". It also has my filing cabinet, and my pc in it. Entry by invitation only!!!!!! I also discovered that I have enough space to unpack all my craft stuff as well..... Cheers |

Re: best places to find second hand fabrics in your town?In Wellington at Missys room (cuba street) there is a huge basket of vintage fabric offcuts - mostly hems of dresses- they are $3 each but if you a buying a few you can get a discount. good for smaller projects!

Re: best places to find second hand fabrics in your town?I stash everything in our master bedroom.
Some in plastic draws others in old council rubbish bags. My second hand fabrics are also found in dress form in the second hand clothing stores. Or given to me via the freecycle community. |

Re: best places to find second hand fabrics in your town?I just wanted to say thanks to everyone for the fabric tips here.
I was given 'Sew La Tea Do' for Christmas and it is perfect for second hand fabrics so I will be checking out the Wellington based stuff here. Marjorie |

Re: best places to find second hand fabrics in your town? From your original post Marjorie, it sounds like your flat is the best place to find second hand fabric in your town!
I'm in London, which has some lovely "proper" second hand fabric places, but they're very much out of my reach, so I tend to get all my fabric from a "little old lady" charity shop near where my kids go to school. They have a basket full of bits and pieces ranging from 10p up to 50p (about 20c to $1). I've managed to find some really lovely stuff that way... They also have a good range of curtains and sheets and so on - I bought a gorgeous pair of William Morris print curtains by Sanderson from there - at a massive ooh £2 - $4!! They didn't know what they had really! I didn't cut them up - they're hanging in my loungeroom |

It's a very rare beasty indeed though, I've not seen any lovelies like that again there - I think I made the mistake of gushing too much over it when I bought it! Lisa |
