I know what you are thinking. Camellias have yellow centres! Please allow me a little artistic license. I have yet to find a yellowy button that doesn't disappear against the felt. I will keep looking but in the meantime I rather like the orangey red look


The story of the camellias-
A friend attacked my garden with pruners and chainsaw one day ( in return for hemming some curtains). She apologised for chopping off lots of camellias and brought them into my sewing room. An idea was born.

I made a red camellia out of felt and she commented it would look great as a hair tie... so she got the original red one that afternoon- it's her in the photo.

This one is also based on one of the camellias in my garden. It can be worn in your hair, on a jacket, on a bag, just about anywhere. It is so versatile!

It is about the size of a real camellia bloom, about 4.5" in diameter. There are three layers of gathered felt, topped with five petals. These are then embroidered with long stitch and french knots and finished with a button from my button box. It might be vintage, it might be recycled from clothes or the op shop. Or just occasionally it might be new.

I sew them tightly to a brooch pin, or if you prefer they can be attached onto hair ties. Let me know when you place your order
