Racking your brains for Father’s Day?

Tuesday, August 28th, 2012

Allow me to assist with a few handpicked items for the discerning gentlemen.

Gift Box of 3 Honey & Spice BLOKE SOAPS

Honey and Spice has a full range of soaps for blokes, made from raw natural ingredients in manly combinations like Cinnamon and Black Pepper. A Father’s Day gift box includes three Bloke Soaps of your choice.

Handmade leather notebook with pocket by elephant+bird

A hand bound leather notebook from elephant+bird is perfect to slip into a pocket or keep in the glove box. There’s an internal pocket to store extra papers in one place and the super slick snaplock button keeps the pages snug. Tightly bound together with organic cotton and secured to a stitched spine, this makes a great notebook for handyman dads to note down plans and schemes.

Polished Boogers by Fat Spatula

And last but not least, from Fat Spatula, we have carefully hand-picked bogies that have been polished to perfection using the ancient technique of rolling them vigorously under the sweaty armpit of an hirsute man. Once polished to a light sheen they are then left to harden naturally in a musty hot-water cupboard. After a few months they are then gathered up and placed in jars to make the perfect Father’s Day gift for the hard-to-buy-for dad. If polished boogers don’t quite fit the bill, choose from a selection of other rare delicacies.

Summer Silver Retreat, 12–13 March, Hawke’s Bay

Jewellery artists Charmayne Dobbs and Ingrid Schloemer invite you to attend their second Summer Silver Retreat in Haumoana, Hawke’s Bay on 12 and 13 March 2011. Over the two days, they’ll give tuition in the creation of silver jewellery using precious metal clay.

The cost of $275 includes tuition, use of tools, firing service and materials (10g silver plate + wire, 14g silver clay and two cubic zirkonias). Dinner will also be provided on the Saturday night, and drinks and nibbles will be supplied throughout the weekend.

This is a fabulous opportunity to learn traditional ways of working with metals: sawing, filing, soldering, wire work, using hammers and pliers – as well as learning to work with a new contemporary material, precious metal clay: shaping, sculpting, cutting, sanding, drilling, setting stones, polishing, and maybe create some filigree work.

Places are limited to 12 people, to allow Charmayne and Ingrid to work closely with each student. You will be working in a group of six with one of the artists, and swap the following day to learn with the other. It’s a great way to meet like-minded people and make new friends, and I can personally vouch for it being a lot of fun!

A creative weekend in beautiful Hawke’s Bay would also make an amazing Christmas present for a crafty person – Ingrid will happily arrange for a printable voucher. Secure a place at the Summer Silver Retreat now!
